Kenyan Widow Mysteriously Dies in Canada, 3 Days After Arrival

Canadian investigators are looking into the death of a 46-year-old Kenyan who passed away after spending an extended period in the cold while seeking refuge at the Mississauga Refugee Camp.

As per CBC News, Delphina Ngigi attempted to seek asylum at the Dundas Street camp on Saturday, February 17. However, she was refused entry due to the camp being at full capacity.

Ngigi, on the other hand, gained entry to the building and was later provided with accommodations for the night.

The next day, she experienced a collapse due to a decline in her health and was quickly taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.

After the incident, the camp managers faced criticism for refusing the woman entry to the shelter. Various advocacy groups, predominantly composed of individuals of African descent, called for justice on behalf of the deceased.

“We are standing in solidarity with the Kenyan community and our sister whom we failed to do our part as Canadians and allow such stories to continue,” a member of the GTA, Africa-Canada lobby group informed the press.ย

Ngigi, who came to Canada just three days before her demise, was a widow and a mother of four children, all of whom reside in Kenya.

Kizito Musabimana, the individual who established the Rwandan Canadian Healing Centre, pledged to pursue justice for Ngigi and assured to handle the funeral preparations, including the repatriation of her remains to her home country.

โ€œThe basic responsibility the current government has is to make sure that someone comes to Canada to pursue that Canadian dream that theyโ€™re not left abandoned to fall in the cracks is seeking asylum in winter,” Musabimana stated.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the reason for her demise before granting permission for the family to transport the remains to Kenya for funeral preparations.

A parallel incident occurred involving a Kenyan woman who passed away under mysterious circumstances in Ireland, just four days after her arrival, mirroring a previous tragedy.

According to reports, the woman took her own life following a dispute with her partner regarding their relationship.
