Kenyan PS Korir Sing’oei Apologizes for Sharing AI-Generated CNN Video on Sudan War
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary (PS) Korir Sing’oei has issued an apology for sharing an AI-generated video that falsely depicted CNN journalist Fareed Zakaria endorsing Kenya’s role in the Sudan conflict.
In a statement on Friday, February 21, Sing’oei admitted to unintentionally sharing the deepfake video and expressed regret for any confusion it may have caused.
“I sincerely apologize for mistakenly posting an AI-generated video that appeared to show CNN’s Fareed Zakaria discussing Kenya’s role in Sudan’s peace efforts. I regret any confusion this may have caused and appreciate those who flagged it as a deepfake,” he said.
The PS revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with technology companies to develop AI watermarking solutions to prevent misinformation. Additionally, he announced his enrollment in the School of AI Diplomacy at the Foreign Services Academy to better understand emerging tech challenges.

“We are collaborating with partners and major tech firms to establish the School on AI Diplomacy (SAID) at the Foreign Services Academy, a program I will be attending. I once again apologize and thank everyone for their vigilance and feedback,” Sing’oei added.
His apology follows public backlash after the AI-generated video, which he shared on Thursday, February 20, sparked criticism. The footage falsely portrayed Zakaria praising Kenya’s diplomatic efforts in the Sudan conflict.
In his post, Sing’oei captioned the video: “For those doubting Kenya’s peace diplomacy, here’s an analysis from CNN’s Foreign Policy expert Fareed Zakaria.”
The incident comes amid growing scrutiny of President William Ruto’s administration, particularly for hosting Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Kenya—a rebel group accused of challenging Sudan’s government.
