Kenyan Govt Sends KDF and 3 Planes to Evacuate Citizens from Sudan

On Monday, April 24, the Kenyan government dispatched a Kenya Airforce plane to evacuate Kenyans stranded in war-torn Sudan.

According to Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Alfred Mutua, the aircraft will transport 18 students to Kenya.

The students road-evacuated from Sudan and will return to South Sudan.

“A Kenya Airforce aircraft is prepared to transport a group of 18 students who are currently traveling by road to the South Sudan border. The CS announced that they will be airlifted to Nairobi.

Mutua added that the Kenyan government was carrying out a three-tiered evacuation process.

“We have already facilitated the entry of 29 Kenyan students into Ethiopia.”

Mutua informed Kenyans of the first evacuation: “They are en route to Gondor, where they will fly to Addis Ababa and then Nairobi.”

After two evacuation drills, the government will coordinate a third mass evacuation with the national airline, the CS said.

Kenya Airways will transport a larger group of Kenyans from Port Sudan to Jeddah and Nairobi on a well-planned itinerary.

“We anticipate transporting 300-400 Kenyans, if not more,” Mutua said in a statement regarding the rescue plan.

He describes the scope of the evacuation, the CS discloses that Kenya is among the five countries.

“I would like to thank South Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia for allowing Kenyan planes to overfly their airspaces to evacuate Kenyans stranded in Sudan.

“I also, in particular, thank the governments of South Sudan and Ethiopia for responding to our request and permitting Kenyans to cross their borders and reach safety,” the CS said in a statement.

Some Kenyans in war-torn Sudan revealed they could reach rescue centers as the government ramped up rescue efforts.

One of the Kenyans stranded in Sudan told GossipA2Z.com, “We are in communication with the embassy, but we do not have transportation to the location provided by the government for evacuation.”
