Kenya Sevens’ Olympic Hopes Dashed After Early Exit in Paris
Kenya Sevens’ journey in the Paris Olympic Games ended prematurely.
Shujaa was eliminated from medal contention after a 26-0 defeat to Samoa in their final Pool “B” match at the Stade de France on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Shujaa’s chances were complicated with losses to Argentina (31-12) and Australia (21-7).
Many expected Shujaa to secure a convincing win against Samoa and keep their medal hopes alive, but it didn’t happen.
Shujaa moved to classification matches scheduled for later Thursday, as their hopes of improving on their performances at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Games faded.

Indiscipline was costly for Kenya, playing with one man less in each half after Kelvin Wekesa and co-captain Tony Omondi were sin-binned.
The Samoans expertly recycled the ball, with Motu Opetai scoring and Faafoi Falaniko adding the extras for a 7-0 lead.
Wekesa’s sin-binning dashed any comeback hopes, leaving Kenya trailing 7-0 at halftime.
Falaniko then converted Canlan Paul’s try to make it 12-0 before Omondi was sin-binned for an infringement.
Apelu Maliko Vaa furthered Samoa’s lead with another try, converted by Tom Maiava, and Steve Onosai completed the rout with Neueli Leitufia adding the extras.
