Kenya Power Tokens Breached: Shocking Cyber Attack!
Kenya Power has purportedly been hacked by a group of Sudanese hackers who have targeted critical government websites over the past three days.
Anonymous Sudan announced on Thursday, July 27 that they had successfully hacked the utility’s systems, causing significant disruptions.
GossipA2Z verified independently that the utility’s electricity tokens system was down, but Kenya Power officials denied knowledge of the attack.
“Transaction failed, M-PESA is unable to pay Ksh100.00 to KPLC PREPAID.” While attempting to purchase tokens, a message read, “The Organization’s payment system encountered some technical difficulties. Please try again later.”
The onslaught follows similar assaults on other vital infrastructure. However, Kenya Power officials denied that their system had been compromised.
Immaculate Karambu, a Kenya Power corporate communication officer, stated, “This is not true.”

The hacker group claimed responsibility for the attack via their Telegram channel, mere hours after ICT Secretary Eliud Owalo reassured Kenyans regarding the recent spate of cyber attacks by a Sudanese hacker group.
“In a number of our operations, we have targeted the Kenya Power and Lighting Company, and we will continue to do so in the future.” Everyone believes that all of our attacks are Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) assaults, but we gained access to the entire backend,” the group wrote.
CS Owalo assured Kenyans that no data had been compromised despite attempts to breach government institutions and services, including the eCitizen portal.
Owalo reassured Kenyans, “There is no cause for alarm; we have sufficient resources to deal with cases of cyber insecurity.”
Since Monday, July 24, the group has claimed responsibility for attacks on leading banks and telcos, prominent media outlets, and government websites, including e-Citizen.
