Kenya Power Engineer Assaulted: IEK Condemns MP Nimrod Mbai
The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). Has criticized Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai for assaulting a Kenya Power engineer. Who allegedly disconnected an illegal power line from the MP’s residence in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
In a statement released on Tuesday, IEK President Erick Ohaga criticized the lawmaker. For the act captured on a now-viral video. Describing it as ‘intimidation to their workers and calling for the MP’s arrest.
The statement drew attention to a video showing the MP for Kitui East humiliating and assaulting a Kenya Power engineer. Who was allegedly leading a team to remove illegal power poles and installations near the MP’s residence in Kitengela.
“In the video, the assailant MP is heard using unacceptable language toward the engineer and his team in front of other employees and bystanders. This unwarranted intimidation, harassment, and vicious attack against the engineer in the course of his duties is an insult to the entire engineering community and, in particular, to the esteemed members of the Institution of Engineers.
IEK added, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms the actions of the Member of Parliament for Kitui East and demand that he faces the full force of the law for his illegal behavior toward the Kenyan power engineer.”

The Institution called for the MP’s firearm ownership license. To be revoked in light of the incident depicted in the video. In which he was seen attempting to draw a gun while hurling insults and repeatedly striking the engineer.
Ohanga contends that his behavior and hostility toward their employees pose a threat to the general public.
“We also demand that the relevant authority in charge of civilian licensing of firearms move swiftly to revoke the assailant’s license to carry arms and permanently bar him from being a licensed arm holder,” IEK stated.
President Ohaga defended the assaulted engineer. Stating that he was lawfully performing his duties. And pointing out that the construction of illegal and substandard power lines has been linked to electrical accidents and deaths.
As a result, he faulted the lawmaker for employing an unlawful mechanism. Rather than the proper channel to address his grievances with the company.
Ohaga stated, “The construction of illegal and substandard power lines by unqualified individuals has resulted in severe electrical accidents, property damage, and loss of life, and this must be brought under control.”
“The Institution upholds the fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya and adherence to the rule of law to resolve grievances and disputes arising within society.”
The Institution has therefore urged Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome. To provide security for its employees in the course of their duties.
Ohaga stated, “In the same vein, we call on the Inspector General of Police to provide adequate security for our members as they perform their duties throughout the country.”
