Kenya Kwanza has unveiled a five-member team to engage with the Azimio la Umoja coalition to resolve the government and opposition’s political impasse.
Kimani Ichung’wah, a Kikuyu representative and the majority leader of the National Assembly, disclosed the names in a statement issued on August 2.
Who Selected Kenya Kwanza?
Other than Kimani Ichung’wah, Kenya Kwanza selected Aaron Cheruiyot, the Senate Majority Leader. The list concludes with Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, and Bungoma Female Representative Catherine Wambilianga.

Ichung’wah criticized the Azimio team for not respecting Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo’s request not to be mentioned in any public statement, alleging that the opposition lacked decency for not honoring the request.

“For the avoidance of dispute, brutality shall no longer and shall never be a part of the political discourse of our nation. As agreed, there shall be no discussion of any kind regarding greeting or ‘nusu mkate,” read a portion of the statement.
Who Will Speak for Azimio?
The Kenya Kwanza team and the Azimio team, composed of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, and Malindi MP Amina Mnyanza, are scheduled to participate in the dialogue.
Concerns The Bipartisan Team Will Explore
Following the release of the agreement letters by the two camps, the discussion of the cost of living divided the two parties.
On the one hand, Raila maintained his position that the expense of living must be a topic of discussion between the two camps.
However, President William Ruto argued that the expense of living was irrelevant to the negotiations because it was included in his manifesto.
“We have already begun implementing the manifesto that will reduce the cost of living. Soon, fertilizer will cost Ksh2,500. Ruto stated on July 30, 2023, “We have a comprehensive program tailored to this end.”
