Kenya Kwanza Team Accuses Azimio Party of Sabotaging Bipartisan Negotiations

The Kenyan Kwanza bipartisan talks team has accused its counterpart from Azimio of erecting unnecessary roadblocks to having fruitful discussions.

The team chaired by George Murugara asserts that Azimio is looking for reasons to terminate the negotiations.

“We have said this before that we need to have the talks at arm’s length, where we are all equal, in as much as we fill there are sustain roadblocks being mounted on our path, we are confident that we can surmount those roadblocks so that the talks can go on because we are committed to having fruitful talks.” He said.

Murugara stated that pressing matters, such as the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission, cannot be put on hold for too long.

“We need to talk and agree, we need to know from them what the problem with the current law is so that we can agree on the next steps, and if it’s necessary to change the law, we’ll bring it to the house,” Murugara said.

Murugara stated he will write to his vo chair Otiende Amollo, whom he accused of prematurely suspending the talks.

Murugara says he will ask his co-chair for a meeting to discuss outstanding issues before resuming talks before Tuesday’s Azimio deadline.

“We have not stated that we will concede to any demands, nor have we stated that we will not concede to the demands. These are negotiations, and we will reach an agreement.” He said.

Concerning concerns that the committee might run out of time before reaching a decision, Murugara stated that they have a clause in the framework of their agreement that allows them to extend the time if necessary.

The truth is that when we suspend negotiations, time also stops, so we still have time to accomplish our goals.

Tuesday, Azimio halted negotiations, accusing their counterparts of insecurity, and withdrew to consult their principles.
