Kenya Distances Itself From Congolese Rebel Alliance Launched In Nairobi
Kenya has made it clear that it was not involved in a press briefing held in Nairobi on December 15th, organized by a Congo opposition member and a prominent figure in the M23 rebel group.
Corneille Nangaa, a prominent member of the Congolese Opposition, declared the establishment of a fresh military coalition in Congo, which incorporates rebel groups.
The ex-leader of the electoral commission in the DRC established the Congo River Alliance, purportedly comprising rebel groups, with the aim of “rescuing the nation.”
In a statement issued by Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, on Sunday, he affirmed Kenya’s dedication to probing the source of the erroneous assertions.
“Kenya strongly disassociates itself from any utterances or activities likely to injure the peace and security of the friendly Nation of DRC and has commenced investigation to determine the identities of the makers of the statement and the extent to which their utterances fall outside constitutionally protected speech,” read the statement.

According to the press accounts, Mudavadi stated that people purporting to be linked with insurgent factions in the DRC conducted a press briefing in Nairobi, where they made remarks that appeared to go against the constitutional structure of the DRC.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary explicitly stated that Kenya was not implicated or involved in the gathering.
“Kenya further affirms its non-involvement in the internal affairs of DRC and commits to continue supporting the peace, security, and democratic consolidation of the country,” said the CS.
Mudavadi stated that Kenya, being an open and democratic country that values a free press, is unlikely to intervene in media activities involving both citizens and foreigners.
Mudavadi’s statement comes in the wake of the DRC recalling its ambassadors from Kenya and Tanzania on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
