KDF Troops Rushed to Hospital Following Terror Attack

On patrol, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers were injured when they ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was likely planted by Al Shabaab.

According to a KDF statement dated September 11th, the incident took place along the Milimani Baure road in Lamu County.

The wounded soldiers were airlifted to the Manda Base Hospital for emergency veterinary care. Additionally, their vehicle was damaged during the incident.

The KDF condemned the actions of the criminals who sabotaged the movement and stability in the region.

“KDF calls upon the residents to share information with the security agencies on these criminal elements who lurk in their communities,” read part of the statement.

The terror group has allegedly been responsible for numerous attacks, particularly in the coastal region, leaving the locals to cope with the aftermath.

As officers dealt with the militants in the region, Duale declared 11 areas of Lamu a no-go zone in August.

Tabasamu, Mkunumbi, Marafa, Ukumbi, Marafa-Toto, Juhudi, Salama, Widho, Poromoko, Jirma, and Pandanguo were the regions enumerated.

Once designated as troubled areas, these locations will be reserved for security operations conducted by KDF soldiers, the National Police Service (NPS), and other security agencies.

“Lamu is very critical to the country’s economy. We want to protect our people, their property, and the LAPSSET (Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport corridor) infrastructure,” Duale stated.

Kindiki has cautioned locals against harboring terrorists in their residences and thwarting the officers’ operation.
