Karua Chooses Carpooling to Save Money

Narc Martha Karua, the leader of a Kenyan political party, has defended Azimio’s proposal to encourage Kenyans to walk to work and, if feasible, carpool.

According to Karua, she has been embracing carpooling as a means of reducing expenses and evading taxation.

“Long before the taxation issue arose, I always carpool; in fact, there are sessions where Eugene and I have appeared in the same car with other individuals. Carpooling is nothing new to us, even for the tasks that we already do…”We need to reduce our operating expenses, but we are not going to lie to people,” she said on Spice FM on Monday.

Karua stated that such measures reduce the government’s tax revenue.

“By making them receive less money due to their refusal to listen to Kenyans, they are making life more difficult; they should be denied what they seek,” she said.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio party, proposed the tax boycott as a way to prevent the government from gathering more taxes as a result of the increase in fuel VAT from 8% to 16%.

Raila proposed that individuals embrace walking and carpooling as a protest against rising fuel taxes.

“Let us deny Ruto the fuel tax by limiting gasoline and diesel consumption. One way to accomplish this is by carpooling. Let us arrange to make regular trips in a single vehicle whenever possible; carpool, reduce non-essential travel, and walk whenever possible,” he suggested on Kamkunji grounds.

Monday, by his declaration, Raila took a matatu to work, stating that he appreciated the convenience and camaraderie of public transportation.
