Karen Nyamu’s TikTok Ban: Hugging Lady Closely Gets Her Booted
Karen Nyamu, a nominated senator, has been temporarily suspended from using TikTok’s live feature.
This decision came after Nyamu hugged another woman closely during a live broadcast on the platform.
What did Karen Nyamu say after being suspended from TikTok?
In her Instagram Stories, Nyamu supported TikTok’s decision and appreciated their efforts in upholding community guidelines.
“I appreciate the measures TikTok has in place. A woman simply hugged me during my livestream, and that led to this,” Nyamu said.
She also playfully dismissed any rumors of TikTok being banned in Kenya, suggesting it would only happen over her metaphorical dead body.
“TikTok will be banned in Kenya only over my dead body,” she jokingly remarked.
When does Karen Nyamu’s suspension end?
Nyamu shared a screenshot showing that her suspension from the live feature lasted only a few hours, and she was reinstated.
“Your ability to go LIVE and host multi-guest sessions will be restored on May 7, 2024, at 11:29 PM. Your access to mobile gaming will also be restored at the same time. Reason for suspension: Sexually suggestive content,” read the notification.
Why TikTok will not be banned in Kenya
Molo MP Kuria Kimani recently spoke out against calls to ban TikTok, stating that the platform is here to stay.
He questioned why they would ban a platform that provides jobs and income to many young people.
The 34-year-old lawmaker agreed that regulation is necessary due to public complaints about explicit content.
When asked if he allows his underage children to use TikTok, the MP said no, questioning the need for high school students to be on the platform.
