Kalonzo Musyoka Urges Revival of Azimio-Kenya Kwanza Talks for National Unity

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the resumption of bipartisan talks between the Kenya Kwanza administration and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

The talks to address the Azimio coalition’s grievances ceased two weeks ago after the opposition coalition withdrew its members, citing the government’s alleged lack of goodwill.

“We should do everything possible to end the stalemate in the bipartisan talks, especially since the talks were intended to reform the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Mr. Musyoka stated on Tuesday that we cannot afford to leave the decision of forming a new IEBC to the Kenya Kwanza coalition alone.

The former vice president. Who has already announced his intention to run for president in 2027. Is adamant that the success of the bipartisan talks will not only foster peaceful coexistence in the country. But also increase his chances of succeeding President William Ruto.

At Miumbuni Secondary School in Machakos County. Where he inaugurated a new school dormitory, he stated, “It will be futile to hold the 2027 General Election with the IEBC in its current form.”

Mr. Musyoka reaffirmed his intention to run against President Ruto for the State House in 2027.

He stated that he was inspired by President Ruto’s campaign strategy. Which saw him immediately hit the ground running after the Jubilee administration won the 2013 elections.

He added that he was not prepared to be a victim of electoral fraud “like [Azimio leader] Raila Odinga, whose victories in the 2013, 2017, and 2022 elections were stolen”

He hopes that reconstituting the IEBC will make the 2027 elections fairer.

Mr. Musyoka gave the impression that his lieutenants were another weak link. In his bid for the presidency by referring to the recent rounds of demonstrations called by Azimio. To press for a reduction in the cost of living and the reconstitution of the IEBC.

He lamented that the Kamba community did not participate in the Azimio protests.

“When I looked back during the protests, I did not see any of my representatives. If Kambas behave as boldly as Luos did during the demonstrations, we will hand over the presidency before dawn,” he said, calling on his lieutenants and supporters to show up in large numbers if Azimio calls for a new round of protests.

He also instructed Wiper MCAs who dominate Ukambani counties. To open offices at the grassroots level and spearhead the mobilization of party members. Ahead of the 2027 General Election “if you are indeed determined to deliver the presidential seat.”

Mr. Musyoka was joined by Senator Agnes Kavindu of Machakos and Members of Parliament Charles Nguna of Mwingi West, Mboni Mwalika of Kitui Rural, Robert Mbui of Katiani, and Patrick Makau of Mavoko.

The legislators vowed to defeat the Finance Bill of 2023. Arguing that it still contains punitive provisions that are not in the best interests of Kenyans. Local politics dominated the conversation at the ceremony. With Mr. Musyoka urging Mr. Makau to collaborate with Governor Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos. The two have recently diverged in their perspectives.
