Kalonzo Musyoka and Azimio Coalition Reject ODM’s Proposal to Join Kenya Kwanza Government
The faction of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya led by Kalonzo Musyoka has rejected ODM leader Raila Odinga’s proposal to lead the opposition into President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
Odinga, the head of the opposition coalition, has expressed a willingness to join President Ruto in forming a government of national unity as a solution to the ongoing political turmoil caused by mass protests from youths holding the country at ransom.
During a press conference on Friday afternoon, Musyoka announced that the coalition would not support the suggested broad-based government.
Musyoka was joined by Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, and other opposition figures.
He characterized joining the government in response to the youth-led protests as a betrayal of those who demonstrated for improved governance and accountability.

“We refuse to participate in or endorse the proposed Kenya Kwanza-led Broad-Based Government of National Unity. This is a betrayal of the Kenyan people, especially Gen Z and millennials, who have fought to rid the country of the disastrous Kenya Kwanza regime, their harsh taxes (Finance Bill 2023/2024), corruption, tribalism, unemployment, and the persistently high cost of living,” Musyoka stated.
He added that joining the government would betray the core values and principles of both the coalition party and its affiliates. As long as the Kenya Kwanza regime remains, he argued, no real change would occur, and any reshuffle would be merely superficial.
Musyoka emphasized that any coalition member who chooses to join the government would be doing so individually, not as a representative of the Azimio coalition.
“Ultimately, we reaffirm our stance that when it comes to choosing between Gen Z and the Kenyan people versus the Kenya Kwanza regime, the choice is clear. We will always stand with the people of Kenya,” he concluded.
