Jubilee’s Soul: ‘War Council’ Gathers to Battle for its Redemption
Former president Uhuru Kenyatta has assembled a new team of seasoned politicians, career civil servants, business magnates, and grass-roots organizers to revitalize the Jubilee Party and maintain its control in the face of President William Ruto’s assault.
Raila Odinga, former president and leader of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, has accused President Ruto of interfering in the party’s affairs, threatening to end bipartisan talks if Kenya Kwanza does not stop interfering with the coalition’s affiliates.
To prevent a coup in the former ruling party, Mr. Kenyatta has assembled a new team of Jubilee lieutenants to compete against the faction allied with President Ruto.
The ex-president’s camp filed resolutions of the party’s special National Delegates Convention (NDC) listing the new “war council” with the Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu last week.
Since approving the resolutions, Azimio has maintained that it will only recognize the party’s new generals.
“We recognize the resolutions reached by our affiliate party Jubilee at the Party’s Special National Delegates Convention, including the change in leadership, which must be considered final. The coalition demanded that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties respect and implement these resolutions.

Bank signatories Ex-president Kenyatta is now listed among the party’s bank signatories. Indicating that his new team is expected to revitalize the party and assume full control.
Mr. Kenyatta will have four deputies as party leaders: Beatrice Gambo (Strategy), Maoka Maore (Programmes). Joseph Manje (Outreach), and Kados Muiruri (Operations). Former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni continues to serve as Secretary-General. Former planning principal secretary Saitoti Torome continues to serve as national chairman. And businessman David Murathe continues to serve as vice-chairman.
To strengthen the party’s electoral strategy. Former Metropolitan Minister and ex-Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau will now serve as national director of elections.
Senator Abdulkadir Haji of Garissa is the party’s National Organising Secretary. While Shurie Abdi Omar of Balambala will serve as its Parliamentary Secretary.
Ms. Maison Leshoomo, a seasoned politician and advocate for women’s rights. Was named national chair of the Women’s League. While former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi will now serve as the party’s business council chair. Mr. Polycarcar Hinga will serve as the interim executive director.
