The Jubilee Party has outlined specific conditions that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua must meet if he hopes to reconcile with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, setting forth what they term as “irreducible minimums.”

This directive comes amidst criticism from the party’s Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, who chastised Gachagua for his efforts to gain favor with the former president.

Kioni, speaking from the Jubilee Party headquarters in Nairobi, emphasized the need for Gachagua to cease his interference in the party’s affairs and refrain from undermining its interests.

He challenged Gachagua’s sincerity in seeking forgiveness, pointing out, “If you truly seek reconciliation, relinquish control of the Jubilee Party. What business do you have in the party?”

Further addressing the issue, Kioni revealed that certain leaders aligned with Gachagua, such as Kanini Kega and Sabine Chege, had already begun the process of apologizing to Uhuru Kenyatta.

These leaders, currently entangled in legal disputes, were reportedly seeking to mend fences with the former president.

In a move signaling their seriousness, Kioni warned that any leaders who wished to regain Uhuru’s trust must unequivocally reject the Finance Bill 2024. Failure to do so, he cautioned, would prompt a nationwide campaign beginning in Nakuru to oppose the controversial legislation.

“If they proceed to pass the Finance Bill against the will of the people, we will mobilize countrywide starting Friday,” Kioni declared.

The planned opposition caravan, starting in Nakuru and extending across all counties, aims not only to engage the public but also to address critical issues discussed during recent meetings in Limuru.

This mobilization underscores the Jubilee Party’s determination to assert its stance and challenge decisions perceived as contrary to public interest.

Gachagua’s recent appeal for forgiveness during a gathering in Limuru highlighted tensions within the Mount Kenya region following disagreements over Uhuru Kenyatta’s endorsement of Raila Odinga in the 2022 elections.

These rifts have left a significant political impact, prompting introspection and attempts at reconciliation among key political figures.
