Joho Announces Political Return, Addresses Absence from Azimio Protests

Ali Hassan Joho, the former governor of Mombasa, has announced his return to politics after a hiatus following the August 2022 general election.

In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, a senior member of the Azimio la Omoja One Kenya coalition party refuted claims that he had hung up his political hat following a string of absences from the opposition team’s anti-government protests in recent months.

Joho, who disclosed that he had been ill for more than six months, stated that his condition is gradually improving and that he will soon be rejoining his fellow Azimio leaders.

He reaffirmed his unwavering support for Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his cause. He implied that he will now assume leadership of the anti-government demonstrations following his full recovery.

“I fully embrace the ideology of Raila Odinga…It needs to be known. I’m Raila, and I am also him. I was only absent due to health reasons, he explained.

“I am currently undergoing recovery. As soon as I feel completely recovered, Raila will be behind me in Maandamano…I will lead, while he will follow.

Joho added, “It must be known; those who are dreaming when they claim that people have retired, mimi ni ODM, mimi ni ODM. I am Raila, Raila is me. Watu wajue hiyo tu, tutakanyagana tu.”

Before leaving politics, the outspoken leader traversed the nation as an Azimio foot soldier while simultaneously serving as the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) deputy party leader.
