Jalang’o Will Not Get Lang’ata MP Seat Again – Senator Sifuna

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stated that Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor alias Jalangโ€™o will not secure a second term in office come the 2027 General Elections following his expulsion from the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) party.

According to Senator Sifuna, Jalang’o’s expulsion will not be reverted and he will not receive any support from the party in the 2027 polls.

He asserted that ODM is solely guided by its constitution and will not relent on its decision even if the courts issue an order to cushion Jalang’o from the dismissal.

“As a political party we are going to follow our constitution and when we are done with our process we let the court do whatever it wants,” he said speaking to TV 47 on Tuesday.

“I have told Jalang’o to stop listening to the counsel of others. If at all you will survive with a court order until 2027 you will not get the Langata MP seat again.”

Sifuna, who is also ODM’s Secretary General, further stated that the party is determined to follow all lawful procedures for effecting the expulsion.

He said that he will be now seeking approval from the party’s National Governing Council (NGC) to finally put a stamp on the expulsion decision.

“We have started early and we are already done with the disciplinary committee, recommendations have already been submitted to NEC,” he said.

“The fact that our court system is not working does not mean that we as a party will not take any action. We will do what we can do. It does not matter how long it will take but we must do what the law allows us to do.”

Sifuna also noted that all party members have backed the decision to show Jalang’o the door alongside four others who were perceived as rebel members.

The five who were sent off on September 6 are Members of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Felix Odiwuor โ€˜Jalangโ€™oโ€™ (Langโ€™ata), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.

The five ousted lawmakers were accused of violating the ODM partyโ€™s Constitution and the Political Parties Act 2011 by openly associating with and supporting activities of a rival political outfit, as well as opposing lawful decisions made by party organs.

The partyโ€™s National Executive Committee (NEC) hence said they are โ€œdeemed to have resigned,โ€ and will now โ€œcommence the process of removing them from the register.โ€

A section of the embattled lawmakers have however maintained that they will move to court to challenge the decision.

MP Caroli Omondi argued that he was exercising the will of his electorate by meeting the president to lobby for development, remaining confident that he would win the court battle.
