President William Ruto made a notable entrance into China on Monday, September 2.

Did Raila Odinga join Ruto on his trip to China?

The president traveled to Beijing for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit.

He was joined by First Lady Rachel Ruto and Raila Odinga, who is the candidate for Kenya’s African Union Commission chairperson.

Photos posted on Ruto’s X account showed them stepping onto a red carpet after disembarking from a Kenya Airways flight.

The president sported a relaxed look with a sweatshirt, dark trousers, and sneakers, while Rachel opted for casual black slacks, a loose-fitting jacket, and a black top.

Raila Odinga followed behind, donning his characteristic fedora and a dark Kaunda suit.

A military parade and dance troupe greeted the visitors.

Ruto noted, “China has long been a reliable development partner, enhancing our infrastructure significantly. We are eager to build on this relationship to expedite our progress.”

Many Kenyans were surprised by Raila’s presence on the trip, with some noting that Ruto chose a Kenya Airways flight over a private jet, unlike his previous US visit.
