Italy intends to adopt a bottom-up approach that avoids compelling any member state to adopt the plan, as per their perspective.

Significantly, the proposal mirrors the President’s emphasis on a grassroots agenda, a priority he has been dedicated to since assuming office.

On the 28th of January, which falls on a Sunday, the President of Kenya departed from the nation to participate in a summit alongside over 20 African Heads of State.

Additionally, the Italian government announced its commitment to initiate a fund of Ksh530 million (3 million Euros) annually for a duration of four years. The fund is intended to provide support to African countries across diverse sectors.

“The plan is due to cost around 3 million euros a year and has a four-year duration. The goal is to enhance energy cooperation with African countries and help them in different areas including health, education, and several other sectors, but its main purpose is to address the root economic causes of mass migration from Africa”, stated the Italian government

Italy expresses a strong interest in sustaining connections with Africa, emphasizing its dependence on African gas production. Approximately 40 percent of the gas consumed in Italy originates from African nations.

“If we want to work on a strategy that brings African and European interests together, one example is energy, because Africa is potentially a huge energy producer and Europe has an energy supply problem,” emphasized the Italian prime minister.

Moreover, Italy intends to prioritize African development during its G7 presidency this year, seeking to bolster its influence in a continent where political influence from Asian global powers such as China and India has been on the rise.

Nevertheless, Kenya is also determined to advance its objectives during the summit, as the president seeks a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister to assess the agendas established in prior discussions.

In a previous statement, the President also mentioned his intention to secure funding for dam projects that had come to a halt in the nation.
