Inside Gachagua’s Meeting With 11 Mt Kenya Senators Amid Growing Regional Dissent

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting on Wednesday morning with more than 10 senators from the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua stated that the purpose of the meeting was to review the performance of the devolved units within their respective counties.

“I engaged in a productive discussion with Senators from eleven Counties to assess the impact of Devolution in their regions,” Gachagua remarked.

The Deputy President emphasized that ongoing dialogue with leaders is essential for advancing the interests of the communities they serve.

He noted that such meetings are an effective way to gather insights into the public’s perception of their leaders.

“Consistent engagement with elected leaders is a driving force for development in our communities. It also serves as an ideal platform for receiving feedback on what our constituents think and feel about our leadership,” he added.

The senators in attendance included Kathuri Murungi (Meru), Joe Nyutu (Murang’a), Mwenda Gataya (Thara Nithi), Karungo Thang’wa (Kiambu), Alexander Mundigi (Embu), and Methu Muhia (Nyandarua).

Other participants were Kamau Murango (Kirinyaga), Wahome Wamatinga (Nyeri), Tabitha Karanja (Nakuru), Joseph Kamau Githuku (Lamu), John Kinyua (Laikipia), and nominated senator Veronica Maina.

This meeting occurs as Gachagua intensifies efforts to establish himself as the dominant political figure in the Mt Kenya region.

He currently holds the highest-ranking political position in the country.

However, his bid to become the region’s spokesperson has faced opposition from some who have openly rejected his leadership.

Gachagua is confronted with the formidable challenge of unifying the Mt Kenya region, as growing discontent emerges against his leadership ambitions.

He issued a stern warning to dissenters, giving them until December to align themselves or face being voted out.

“By December this year, a decision will be made on who will return and who will be sent home,” Gachagua declared.

“After December, it will be too late to make changes. Those who have strayed have until then to get back on track,” he added.

Gachagua also mentioned that Mt Kenya residents have put these leaders on notice, warning that their political futures are at stake if they do not adjust their course.

“As we prepare for the 2027 elections, be aware that the competition will be fierce. I am in touch with the grassroots, and significant decisions have already been made,” he warned.

Despite Gachagua’s intensified political maneuvers and efforts to ‘unify’ the region, several Mt Kenya leaders, particularly those aligned with President William Ruto, have vowed not to succumb to what they describe as ‘Gachagua’s threats.’
