“Imelemewa” – Malindi Hospital Morgue Overwhelmed by Bodies
During the past two to three weeks, there has been a rise in the number of patients visiting the Kilifi-Malindi Sub-County Hospital.
Following the discovery that cult leader pastor Paul Mackenzie and his followers were starving to death, the facility has begun allowing visitors inside.
The hospital has maintained the stench of death and anguish due to the presence of family members searching for their loved ones as well as homicide detectives bringing bodies in body bags.

Robert Chonga, the official in charge of the Malindi sub-county hospital, has revealed that the facility’s mortuary has been overwhelmed by the number of bodies that have been brought in from the Shakahola forest.
Chonga explained that they were looking for an alternative way to preserve the retrieved bodies. In a manner that was respectful to the dead.
“Hii mortuary kwa kweli imelemewa. Hata hivi tutapata njia mbadala ya kuweza kuhifadhi zile miili. Tunaangalia njia kadhaa kueza kuona njia mwafaka ya kuweka hii miili kwa njia ambayo inaonyesha heshima,” Chonga said.
