“I’m Guilty as Charged, I Love My People”- Gachagua on Defending Mt Kenya

Deputy President has expressed his love for the central region saying he shares a lot in common with them.

The DP said that he will unapologetically declare his love for the Mt Kenya region.

He, however, added his love for the central region should not create a problem with other regions.

“I’m guilty as charged, I have no defense, that I love my people, care for them and think about them then I’m guilty as charged. It does not mean that because I love my people, I have a problem with the other people. The rest of the Kenyans are all our friends, they are my people whom I agree with, we talk the same language and understand each other,” he said.

The DP called on Kenyans to love and protect one another in whatever they do.

He spoke on Sunday during a Church Service at St Stephen Catholic Parish, Karoroha in Nyandarua.

The DP’s sentiments on Mt Kenya have stirred conversations in the country in the past months particularly after he backed the one-man one-shilling revenue-sharing formula.

The DP elicited mixed reactions with some leaders calling him out while others supporting his proposal.

On June 7, Gachagua said his stand on the revenue-sharing formula was just an opinion that cannot be forced on Kenyans.

โ€œThe fact that I’m Deputy President does not extinguish my right as a Kenyan, as per the constitution to have an opinion. That opinion is not a command, allow me to persuade you that this formula can work,โ€ he said.

Gachagua further said leaders whose opinions are different from his stand are within their rights as Kenyans.

โ€œSome leaders are calling me a tribalist probably because the opinion I give seems to be liked by the people from the region where I come from,โ€ he stated.
