IG Koome Faces Resignation Pressure From UDA Bigwig
On Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot urged Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to step down from his position.
Addressing the audience in Bomet County, the Senator expressed disappointment over the absence of the Inspector General, noting that bandits were still causing fear among the residents of Kerio Valley.
Cheruiyot commented that ever since IG Koome assumed office, he had become less involved in issues concerning national security.
During a Sunday service at AGC Church in Bomet, a senator from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) urged Inspector General Koome to step down from their position. This call came while Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was present at the event.
“If he is overwhelmed by the job, let him resign and we bring new people who can ensure our people are safe,” Cheruiyot stated.
Cheruiyot asked PCS Musalia Mudavadi to ensure that the matter is discussed during the upcoming cabinet meeting.

“Tell him to get out of Jogoo House, and go to Kerio Valley where our brothers and sisters are being murdered every day,” Cheruiyot told Musalia.
The senator from Kericho expressed his ongoing surprise at witnessing individuals directing their complaints about the increasing incidents of banditry in the North Rift to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
The lawmaker asserts that the Inspector General’s office operates independently and suggests that inquiries regarding insecurity across different regions should be directed towards the Inspector General.
“I want to ask that person we gave the IG job, that Koome, where did he go? I never hear his voice,” he complained.
Cheruiyot made his comments three days following Inspector General Koome’s briefing to President William Ruto regarding the actions being implemented to address security challenges in the North Rift region.
The gathering was joined by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, alongside his Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, along with the deputies of IG Koome.
