Ida Odinga Backs Mbadi to Succeed Raila as Next Luo Leader
There is widespread speculation in Homa Bay about the potential successor to Raila Odinga in Luo land, following the Azimio leader’s announcement of his intention to vie for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission.
Mrs. Ida Odinga has disclosed her preference for the upcoming leader of Luo Nyanza following her husband Raila.
At a public event in Nyandiwa, within the Suba South constituency, Ida remarked that Raila had imparted political training to numerous individuals. She expressed the view that his departure wouldn’t have a significant negative impact, as a capable and well-trained politician could step in to assume a leadership role.

“Baba sent me to tell you that you should be calm and never stress your hearts because even if he goes to lead Africa and leaves Kenyan politics, he’s left behind his brave and competent sons and daughters who can continue with his work,” said Ida.
She proceeded to express admiration for John Mbadi, the national chairman of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, who was also at the event. She praised Mbadi for his longstanding association with Raila, suggesting that he must have gained valuable insights from their years of collaboration.
“All the years that you’ve been with Baba, you’ve gained more knowledge and leadership skills that you can use to lead the people. Are you not able?” Ida posed a question at Mbadi.

She repeatedly addressed him, lavishing him with compliments and using his political alias, Mbadi Nyang’, a moniker that translates to Mbadi the Crocodile.
“This is the heartbeat of Baba,” she declared amid cheers from an enthusiastic crowd.
Mbadi cautioned those prematurely rejoicing over Raila’s presumed political departure to brace themselves for a surprise.
“Those who are celebrating Raila’s exit are probably our opponents from the UDA party who think it will be easier for them to win the next election if Raila is out of Kenyan politics. I want to tell all of you that you’ll be surprised by the results,” roared Mbadi.
The gathering consisted of a group of community leaders who conveyed steadfast backing for Mbadi.
