Ichungwah Urges Ruto to Detain Uhuru

Saturday, July 22, Majority Leader of the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah increased pressure on President William Ruto, urging him to adopt a tougher stance against Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family, whom he accuses of destabilizing the country.

Ichung’wah ridiculed Uhuru during a rally in Vihiga County for defending his son after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided the younger Kenyatta’s home in Karen on July 21.

The Kikuyu representative also maintained that Uhuru is financing the Azimio la Umoja demonstrations. He also claimed that police raided the residence of Jomo Kenyatta due to suspicions that he had twenty firearms.

The majority leader urged Ruto to continue carrying out his duties as president and to defend the Kenyan people from unauthorized gun owners.

“Yesterday, you saw some parents complaining that their children were being harassed by officers. “Why do you have firearms in your home, and what battles are you fighting there?” he inquired.

Ichung’wah further accused Uhuru of sabotaging Ruto even as the current Head of State pursues his goals of creating employment for the youth who, according to Ichung’wah, are being used to destroy property during ongoing anti-government demonstrations.

“While the president is creating jobs, you (Ruto) are complaining that he is disturbing your mother,” he remarked.

In response to Uhuru’s remark regarding the peaceful transfer of power, Ichung’wah emphasized that Uhuru was constitutionally obligated to pass over the presidency.

Ichung’wah stated, “You did not do us a favor; you were following the Constitution.”

Uhuru denied Azimio funding for nationwide anti-government protests on Friday, July 21. He faulted Ruto and his allies for drawing him into their drama and blaming him for their political failures.

“The issues being discussed by Kenyans have nothing to do with me.” Have you spotted me on any of these occasions? Have you heard me discuss these events? asked Uhuru.

He advised Ruto to listen to the people and resolve the crisis rather than target his family in an attempt to deflect attention.
