“I Will Work For Both Africa And Kenya,” Raila Assures Supporters On AU Commission Job

The leader of the One Kenya coalition party, Raila Odinga, has reiterated to his followers that he will remain active in Kenyan politics, even if he secures the Chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Addressing the residents of Kibra Constituency on Saturday while inspecting the commencement of a new tuition block construction at the Raila Education Centre, Mr. Odinga reassured the Kenyan populace that he is capable of simultaneously fulfilling responsibilities both at the continental level in Africa and within the nation.

The leader of the opposing party affirmed that he would be ready to answer the call of Kenyans whenever they required his assistance.

โ€œI will be around here. I am not going to be away. I will work for the continent of Africa but, at the same time, work for Kenya. I can be able to scale the stairs and chew the gum at the same time,โ€ asserted Raila.

โ€œWhen the time comes and you need me, I will respond to your call.โ€

Mr. Odinga made comments a week later, rejecting the notion that his candidacy for the AUC would mean his departure from Kenyan politics. He pointed out the geographical proximity of the commission’s headquarters in Addis Ababa to Nairobi as a reason for this dismissal.

“I am not going away. Addis Ababa is only 2 hours away from Nairobi. I am available, whenever I am called, I will answer. I am ready to work with you people,” he said then.

Additionally, the Azimio chief stressed the importance of quality education, especially among the youth, saying they are โ€œthe engine for wealth creation in the society.โ€

He proceeded to highlight significant issues within the education sector, including exam dishonesty and insufficient funding, urging the government to tackle these concerning matters.

โ€œEducation is very fundamental in our country. Without proper education, no nation can prosper,โ€ he said.

โ€œIf the youth are empowered with quality education they become the engine for wealth creation in the society. This is a challenge to the present government. It is very unfortunate that today we still have issues of capitation and examination cheating.โ€
