“I am not as short as you think”- Funny Moment at State House as Olusegun Obasanjo Kicks Away Step Board Brought for Him
During a recent event at State House in Nairobi, former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo sparked a moment of amusement as he playfully resisted assistance extended to him.
Obasanjo was among the distinguished guests invited to the event where former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship was being formally unveiled.
The gathering was graced by various high-profile dignitaries, with Kenyan President William Ruto playing host.
When it was Obasanjo’s turn to deliver his speech, President Ruto invited him to the podium.
As Obasanjo approached, Ruto discreetly signaled to an aide to place a step board on the stage, apparently anticipating that the former Nigerian president might have trouble reaching the microphone due to height considerations.
The step board was placed to make it more convenient for Obasanjo to address the assembly, given the assumption that he might need it.

However, upon reaching the podium, Obasanjo subtly defied the gesture. He initially attempted to nudge the stepboard away with his foot, and when that didn’t work, he bent down and tried to push it aside with his hand.
His actions triggered laughter among the audience, including President Ruto, who couldn’t hold back his amusement.
After playfully handling the situation, Obasanjo composed himself and, with a lighthearted tone, addressed the crowd, saying, “I am not as short as you think I am.”
