“I Am My Own Man!” Deputy President Kindiki Fires Back at Critics Over Claims of Being Ruto’s Puppet
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed accusations that he is merely a yes-man.
He emphasized his independence, stating that his role as the president’s principal assistant does not obligate him to agree with everything his boss says or does.
Kindiki clarified that his responsibilities do not include opposing the President, as such actions fall outside his constitutional mandate.
He further explained that his role allows him to offer advice to the President, but only when requested. He affirmed his commitment to the oath of office he took, prioritizing it above all else.

“I am my own man. My interpretation of the Deputy President’s role is not to oppose the President. The Constitution doesn’t mandate it, nor does any law. If the President seeks my advice, my duty is to provide it faithfully. That doesn’t mean I have to do it publicly. My loyalty is to the oath I swore,” Kindiki asserted on Thursday.
His remarks came in response to claims that President William Ruto selected him as Deputy President due to his perceived compliance.
President Ruto chose Kithure Kindiki to succeed Rigathi Gachagua following Gachagua’s impeachment.
Explaining his decision, Ruto praised Kindiki as a diligent public servant poised for national leadership.
The President described Kindiki as a patriot with an unwavering commitment to fostering cohesion, unity, and inclusivity in Kenya.
Kindiki was inaugurated as Kenya’s third Deputy President under the current Constitution, following his previous role as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
