How Ruto’s Allies Plan to Tame DP Gachagua: Impeachment Paused in Favor of Budget Cuts and Political Maneuvering

President William Ruto’s allies have paused their efforts to impeach his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, as reported by Gossipa2z.com.

Instead, the President’s inner circle has opted to pursue alternative strategies to limit Gachagua’s political influence both inside and outside of government.

They are advocating for drastic reductions in budget allocations for Gachagua’s office, including significant cuts to the confidential budget.

This confidential fund typically provides millions of shillings for the DP’s discretionary spending on operational matters without accountability.

There are worries that these funds might be used by Gachagua for national travel and political events to strengthen his support base.

Additionally, the President’s team is planning to remove Gachagua’s supporters from significant positions in the UDA party and parliamentary committees to diminish his power.

These developments have come to light as it appears the President’s allies have eased their impeachment strategy as a means to weaken Gachagua.

The rift between the DP and the President seems to have deepened, prompting the President’s team to explore other methods to manage Gachagua.

The impeachment approach has been abandoned after it became clear that it might generate significant public sympathy for the DP.

The President’s advisors reportedly opposed the impeachment plan, fearing it could damage the President’s political standing in Gachagua’s Mt Kenya region.

On Sunday, Gachagua dramatically claimed there was a plot to assassinate him and his close associates as part of a broader effort to politically eliminate him.

This claim comes as police are reportedly investigating two of Gachagua’s allies, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya and Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Mejja Donk, in connection with recent anti-government protests.

The two MPs have secured court orders to prevent their arrest and prosecution related to their involvement in the Generation Z protests that recently stirred the nation.

With the impeachment option no longer viable, the President’s allies have chosen to marginalize the DP in government affairs, as the rift between Ruto and Gachagua seems to be beyond repair.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah criticized Gachagua’s assassination claims, suggesting they were an attempt to garner public sympathy.

“The deputy president must evaluate whether he still meets the standards set by Chapter Six of the Constitution regarding leadership and integrity,” Ichung’wah stated.

In a recent interview with Agikuyu stations, Gachagua alleged that a former National Intelligence Service officer he had hired narrowly escaped death after being targeted by unknown assailants.

“A former NIS officer who I employed was pursued by people on a motorcycle to my Karen residence, shot in the shoulder, but fortunately survived and received medical attention,” Gachagua claimed.

Gachagua’s allies in key UDA positions are reportedly being targeted in a broader effort to ensure that only Ruto’s loyalists hold influential roles.

Gachagua expressed frustration over the removal of former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, claiming he was not consulted and was informed too late to attend the meeting where Malala was ousted.

On budgetary matters, President Ruto recently approved the Supplementary and Appropriation Bill, which includes Sh6 billion in cuts to the President’s and Deputy President’s offices.

Gachagua’s office faced the largest reduction, with Sh800 million cut from confidential expenditures and significant reductions in travel and hospitality budgets.
