How Class-8 Dropout Relocated To Uganda And Sealed Ksh 7.5B Deal With Museveni

Years after relocating from Bungoma to Kampala, Uganda, Amina Hersi Moghe did not anticipate that she would be recognized for her contribution to the nation’s skyline transformation.

She harbored a desire to join her father in the family hardware as an inputs vendor, a goal she pursued since a tender age.

Nevertheless, following the demise of her father when she was nine years old, she began to harbor aspirations of greater magnitude, including attaining widespread recognition within the real estate sector.

However, she never imagined that she would one day enter into an agreement with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni regarding the construction of a Ksh7.5 billion skyscraper.

Hersi was inspired to enter the real estate sector by its direct connection to the hardware industry, in which she had personally practiced her family’s custom of teeth-whitening.

Amina disclosed in an interview that her triumph occurred in 2007 when the Ugandan government granted her four acres of land adjacent to Garden City on Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala.

Hersi emphasized that the defunct Kampala City Council was keen to improve infrastructure at the time and was therefore allocating land parcels to city developers.

“Naturally, I like challenges. I had conquered the cement distributorship and needed something more,” she highlighted.

“So in the period leading up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Uganda in 2007, the government was eager to improve infrastructure and accommodation in Kampala.”

To obtain an additional parcel of land situated on Nakasero Road, she composed a letter to President Museveni requesting permission to construct 164 opulent luxury apartments known as the Laburnum Courts Luxury apartments.

The developer noted that Museveni was captivated by the concept and her enthusiasm and had agreed to meet her.

“He asked me whether I had the money to do what I asked and I answered yes.”

Hersi remarked that the agreement served as the pivotal moment that granted her permission to build Oasis Mall in the central business district of Kampala.

“I approached Corporate companies, embassies, and other clients and told them I would give their employees a different service, luxurious serviced apartment units with a swimming pool, health facilities, children’s playing area, business center, restaurants, and gym. I told them I would do their laundry.”

Additionally, she is lauded for the construction of buildings for Kingstone Enterprises Limited and Rabo Enterprises Limited, among others.
