Househelp Seeks Ksh 80M: Sues Ex-Employer for Dog Bite
A Kenyan maid has filed a lawsuit against her former employers, American citizens, seeking Ksh80 million in compensation for injuries she sustained when the couple’s canines attacked her and left her severely injured.
The housekeeper stated in a court document obtained by GossipA2Z that her employers failed to ensure her safety on April 28, 2021, when she took their son to a neighbor’s house to play.
The court document indicates that the housekeeper was injured while assisting the son, who was struck down by two English Bulldogs.
“The plaintiff alleges that the defendants were negligent and violated her constitutionally protected rights to dignity and protection from physical and mental torture. “The defendants owed the plaintiff and his son a duty of care to provide a safe environment upon their entry into the premises,” the house stated in an affidavit.
The woman, through her attorneys Anjarwalla and Khanna, explained that the couple promised to pay for her hospital bill, which totaled Ksh1.29 million but has only paid Ksh1.0 million.

“Your obvious failure to provide a secure environment constitutes a breach of your duty of care, which resulted in severe injuries to our client. “Our Client acknowledges and appreciates your partial payment for her physical and emotional medical treatment to date,” the affidavit stated.
“However, the harm she sustained as a result of your negligence has impeded her ability to live a normal and productive life, and she relives the trauma daily.”
The domestic worker is seeking Ksh80 million in damages and future medical expenses.
An additional Ksh50 million will be awarded for general damages, including physical pain and suffering, physical impairment, and emotional distress.
Twenty million shillings will be awarded as compensation for the violation of her rights to human dignity, and ten million shillings will cover her future medical expenses.
In addition, she is seeking Ksh225,210 in special damages.
The special damages include medical expenses that the couple refused to cover.
