Heartbreaking Farewells: Families’ Last Moments with Londiani Crash Victims

A cloud of sorrow has settled over the Londiani Junction along the Kericho-Kisumu Highway. Days after a horrific road accident that claimed 52 lives.
On Friday evening, a truck collided with multiple vehicles and businesspeople at the scene, causing an accident.

As the families of the deceased come to terms with their loss. They have shared with their relatives their last moments with the deceased and how they learned of their passing.

Mary Nduta, who lost her sister in the accident, had her worst fears confirmed by an alarming phone call from the landlord.

“At 7.30 a.m., the landlord informed me that my sister had not slept in the residence. When I arrived at the intersection, one of my other sisters showed me her leso, she told GossipA2Z.

Margaret Wanjiku lost her first-born son in the accident, which occurred 30 minutes after their phone conversation.

“We discovered his bicycle at the accident scene, and we were informed that he had been transported to the hospital. He was deceased when we arrived,” she recalls.

“He had just delivered potatoes. We heard that there was an accident at the intersection and that he was one of the victims,” related another relative.

As families tally their losses, Naomi Kosgei, who narrowly escaped the crush, counts her blessings.

“I lied down when the truck was passing, holding myself up with an electrical pole, and only my leg was hurt,” she explains.

Saturday, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen visited the accident site and called for the relocation of roadside markets.

“All markets located within the road reserve should be relocated. Murkomen stated that county governments, in collaboration with the federal government through the intergovernmental framework, should construct markets away from highways while KeNHA builds access roads to the markets.
