Heartbreak: Sergeant Rose Nyawira’s Family Speaks Out
A family in Kirinyaga is experiencing great distress due to the death of Rose Nyawira, an officer with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
Sergeant Nyawira died from injuries sustained when a military helicopter crashed in Sindar, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Family members are assembling in Kagio village, struggling to cope with the death of their loved one.
The family reported that they found out about their daughter’s passing from news outlets.
“We saw the Head of State giving a briefing of the fatal accident. That is how we learned of the departure of our daughter,” said Mr. Peter Wachira, the father to the fallen officer.
Wachira, a dairy farmer said he last saw his daughter on Sunday.
“I was with my daughter on Sunday and she was very jovial. We discussed various issues and then I saw her off although it was raining heavily,” he said.
Mr. Wachira characterized his daughter as diligent and sincere, expressing that she will be greatly missed.

“The death has dealt us as a family a big blow,” said Mr Wachira.
Timothy Kariuki, who is Nyawira’s uncle, expressed his disbelief when the news started coming in.
“I thought it was a joke until my brother, who is a KDF officer, confirmed that Nyawira was no more,” said Mr Kariuki.
Nyawira, who perished along with nine other officers, was a soldier and photographer.
Her supervisor, General Francis Ogolla, who served as the Chief of Defence Forces, also lost his life in the unfortunate accident.
Leaders from Kirinyaga extended their sympathies to the grieving family.
“We have lost a dedicated soldier and we stand with the family in this trying moment,” the Kirinyaga Jubilee branch chairman Mureithi Kang’ara said.
