Health Ministry In Hamas-Run Gaza Says Death Toll At 18,205

The Gaza Strip’s health ministry, under Hamas authority, reported a recent escalation in casualties, indicating that the death toll from the Israel-Hamas conflict has now reached 18,205 within Palestinian territory.

This grim toll accompanies a staggering count of 49,645 individuals wounded since the hostilities commenced on October 7, as stated by ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra.

The conflict, now extending into its third month, continues to ravage the Gaza Strip with intensified clashes between Israel and the Hamas group. On Sunday, fierce fighting persisted, adding to the prolonged unrest.

Initial aggression from Hamas militants originating from the Gaza Strip on October 7 resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities, predominantly civilians, and the capture of roughly 240 hostages, with 137 of them purportedly remaining within Gaza, according to Israeli officials.

In retaliation, Israel pledged to dismantle Hamas, launching a military campaign in Gaza that, according to the health ministry overseen by Hamas, has claimed the lives of at least 17,997 individuals, primarily women and children.

Amidst this turmoil, a seven-day ceasefire, which concluded on December 1, facilitated the release of 105 hostages by Gaza militants, including numerous Israelis. This release transpired in exchange for 240 Palestinian detainees held by Israel.
