Happiness Degree: Ex-Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s Unique Triumph
Former governor of Meru, Kiraitu Murungi, has disclosed that he has graduated from the Happiness Studies Academy after effectively completing a one-year degree program in happiness studies.
The individual formerly affiliated with Meru County and present-day chairman of National Oil Corporation disclosed this information to his Facebook followers, adding that he was now prepared to promote joy throughout his native country.
“I am happy to announce that I completed a one-year degree course in happiness studies from the Happiness Studies Academy and graduated,” he wrote. “I am now fully equipped to spearhead the happiness revolution in my motherland.”
The politician also posted photographs of himself and other graduates from a photo session, as well as a photograph of his certificate, which had been signed by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, the founder of the Happiness Studies Academy.
Murungi’s exploration of happiness pursuits follows his admission that he came perilously close to succumbing to depression following his defeat to incumbent Governor Kawira Mwangaza for the Meru gubernatorial office.
Amid his candid revelations earlier this year, Kiraitu Murungi discussed the difficulties he encountered in the wake of his stunning political defeat, adding that he was truly taken aback.
Experiencing electoral disappointment for the first time in thirty years, he found the defeat especially difficult to accept.
Kiraitu continued by disclosing that he traveled to the United Kingdom to see his daughter for two weeks after his defeat.

“I was doing nothing. I tried to calm myself and reflect on my circumstances,” Kiraitu revealed.
“Even if I was a primary school teacher, I would have retired by now. People are retiring at the age of 60. I am 70, ten years past retirement age. What I have done should be enough. I should thank the people of Meru for letting me lead them for thirty years,” he further noted.
To combat the post-election depression he experienced, the former governor and minister during the Kibaki administration stated that he pursued happiness through the publication of “The Happiness Journal.” The journal’s objective was to inspire a “happiness revolution” among community leaders committed to bettering the lives of their constituents.
“After politics, I thought I should do something else that impacts people’s lives. Happiness Resource Center is new and because we did not have the money to employ staff, I became the chief happiness officer,” Kiraitu Murungi noted.
The New York, United States-based Happiness Studies Academy promotes the happiness revolution by employing an interdisciplinary and holistic methodology in the instruction of happiness.
The institution’s website articulates its mission as the promotion of holistic well-being, wherein contentment is defined as the experiential manifestation of “whole-being.”
