The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has recognized the significance of Kenyan diaspora members in facilitating job opportunities for citizens within the country.ย

This sentiment was conveyed by Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary of Diaspora Affairs, during a diaspora engagement forum held on Tuesday, May 28, in Minnesota, United States.

PS Njogu emphasized that this initiative would supplement the government’s ongoing endeavors to tackle unemployment.

She highlighted, “The government is committed to addressing unemployment by actively involving Kenya’s skilled, talented, and resilient youth in seeking gainful employment opportunities.”

Additionally, PS Njogu underscored her department’s dedication to safeguarding the rights and well-being of Kenyans living abroad.

In addition to facilitating job placements for Kenyans in their home country, diaspora members were encouraged to contribute to discussions on labor mobility.

Under President William Ruto’s leadership, the government is engaging in negotiations with various countries to establish labor agreements aimed at sending 2,500 Kenyan citizens abroad for work every week.

The administration sees this initiative not only as a solution to unemployment but also as a means to bolster the economy through diaspora remittances.

Efforts are underway to finalize labor agreements with countries such as Canada, Germany, Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.

Beyond participating in labor mobility talks, Kenyan diaspora members were urged to actively engage in transferring skills and knowledge.

Regarding economic matters, PS Njogu suggested that Kenyans working overseas consider investing in their home country, noting abundant opportunities across various sectors.

Those interested in investment were encouraged to explore avenues like Special Economic Zones, agriculture, and information communication technology sectors, among others.
