Govt Pathologist Johansen Oduor Offered Vacation Trip to Tsavo Over Rita Waeni Murder

Johansen Oduor, a highly regarded government pathologist known for conducting post-mortem examinations in numerous high-profile cases, has been presented with a two-day vacation to a safari lodge located in Tsavo, Taita Taveta County.

On Friday, the renowned Kenyan hotelier Mohammed Hersi utilized his social media channels to commend Oduor’s strong work ethic and professionalism.

Hersi mentioned Oduor’s most recent investigation while performing the autopsy on Rita Waeni, a 20-year-old whose dismembered body was discovered in a garbage bin in Roysambu.

Following a post-mortem examination of Waeni’s body last Tuesday, Oduor expressed profound shock at her demise, noting that he had never encountered such a horrifying murder in his professional experience.

Hersi believes that the pathologist should take some time to relax due to his admirable efforts.

“He is not in this for the money. Late Waeni’s case has traumatised him and he deserves a break with his better half. If you know him, he has a weekend at Salt Lick Lodge to relax and unwind. Dr Oduor you deserve it,” Hersi explained.

The hotel manager mentioned that the pathologist would be collected from the Madaraka Express Station in Voi as part of the all-expenses-covered journey.

Situated in the central region of Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, Salt Lick Lodge is renowned for being one of the most captured lodges in the world.

After the announcement, Bosire Wairimu, who serves as the inaugural Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Health Systems and Gender Justice, contacted Hersi and provided the pathologist’s contact information.

On the other hand, other medics expressed their willingness to be coached by the pathologist. Others also sought Oduor to share his experience in a novel or podcast, noting: “What he has seen through his forensic practice life can never be comprehended.”

Throughout his professional journey, Oduor has become closely associated with significant cases in his role as the state pathologist. In a previous interview, he shared that his daily routine is centered around his work, starting his day at 5:00 am and persisting until midnight.

Aside from his duty, Oduor loves enjoying ‘nyama choma’ with his friends as well as spending time with family.
