Govt Clarifies: Ruto’s Church Fundraiser Participation Amid Harambee Ban
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on Thursday refuted claims that President William Ruto violated his directive by attending a church fundraiser.
Speaking to reporters, Mwaura emphasized the lack of conclusive evidence supporting allegations of the Head of State’s inconsistency.
He urged Kenyans to adhere strictly to the president’s guidelines, emphasizing the prohibition of engaging in fundraisers and other forms of charitable donations.
Mwaura underscored that the ban on public participation in Harambees was a firm presidential directive that requires strict compliance.
“We cannot continue repeating this. There is a law that has already been proposed in parliament and Kenyans have also expressed themselves concerning this matter,” Mwaura stated.
“Because which Harambee can you state the President attended? Kenyans had already expressed their displeasure with the Harambee and we heed their demand,” he added.

Mwaura urged Kenyans to prioritize dialogue, noting President Ruto’s efforts in addressing key concerns raised by protesters.
The government spokesperson outlined several measures: withdrawing the Finance Bill 2024, reducing expenditures for the First Lady and Second Lady’s offices, and restructuring the cabinet.
Other actions encompassed signing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Bill, abolishing Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) roles, prohibiting fundraisers, and permitting the resignation of the Inspector General of Police.
“May I reaffirm that the President and the Government at large have heard you loud and clear and we are ready to act on your concerns as demonstrated by the recent developments,” Mwaura stated.
According to Mwaura, the recent protests had been infiltrated by goons, and that saw the government lose about Ksh6 billion in revenue.
“On behalf of the Government I, therefore, make a call to all of us to embrace patriotism and stay engaged, focused, and committed to building a peaceful progressive Kenya,” the government spokesperson noted.
