Govt Calls Back All Police Officers on Leave, Issues Orders to KDF
The Ministry of Interior and National Security has issued important instructions to all security agencies nationwide as the December holiday celebrations begin across the country.
In a notice released on Wednesday, December 4, the government instructed all security personnel on leave to return to work immediately to provide extra security during this festive period.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo confirmed that 10,317 officers have already been deployed and will patrol the streets to ensure public safety.
“I hereby order that all Multi-Agency Command Centres operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This means all Police Officers currently on Leave must report back to duty immediately, no later than December 5, 2024,” Omollo announced.
The PS also revealed that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers would be stationed at the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC) at Lang’ata Barracks to assist regional security teams in addressing potential threats.
Additionally, KDF officers will provide air support, surveillance, and logistical backup to law enforcement units during the holiday season.
“The operational coordination through the activation of the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC) at Lang’ata Barracks, supported by Regional (RMACCs) and County (CMACCs) centers, will help deter security threats and maintain public order. It will include officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, and Kenya Forestry Service,” Omollo elaborated.
Omollo also informed the public to expect increased police visibility, including personnel from specialized units such as undercover officers and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

These officers are from critical policing units, including the National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forestry Service, and the Kenya Coast Guard Service.
“Kenyans should anticipate a heightened police presence as we have deployed specialized units, including the all-female Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, undercover officers, and General Duty Police, to intensify patrols and enhance surveillance in key urban areas, places of worship, and critical infrastructure,” Omollo said.
All Border Control agencies have been instructed to secure exit and entry points, ensuring smooth passenger flow at all borders.
Additionally, the Ministry has reassured tourists of their safety, with police officers assigned to patrol and protect all tourist destinations and sites across the country.
“Regional and County Security Committees, in collaboration with the National Police Service and Kenya Wildlife Service, will implement measures to guarantee the safety of both local and international tourists at coastal resorts, inland attractions, National Parks, and Game Reserves,” Omollo stated.
He also urged all citizens to stay vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement during the festive season to ensure the safety of all Kenyans, particularly vulnerable groups like women, children, and persons with disabilities.
