Governor Mwangaza’s brother among 2 charged with blogger Sniper’s murder

On Monday, a court in Kiambu detained two individuals who are accused in the murder investigation of the late Meru blogger, Daniel ‘Sniper’ Muthiani.

On Monday, the court held the arraignment of the pair following the submission of mental assessment results, which indicated their suitability to undergo trial.

Both individuals were accused of committing a murder offense under Section 203 in conjunction with Section 204 of the Penal Code (Cap. 63).

A statement from the Office of The Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) disclosed that the two suspects will be held at the Industrial Area Prison while awaiting a bail application and a subsequent hearing.

“They pleaded not guilty before Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony and will be remanded at Industrial Area Remand Prison pending filing a bail application by the defense and a subsequent response by the prosecution”, read the statement in part.

Nevertheless, both individuals accused in the trial asserted their innocence regarding the murder charges brought against them.

Additionally, the court instructed the Probation and Aftercare Service to carry out a social inquiry and submit a pre-bail report within 14 days.

They also stated that the matter will be mentioned on 29 February this year.

Two of the individuals taken into custody are part of a group of five accused of murdering the Meru blogger in December 2023.

A person presented in court today as a suspect is identified as the sibling of Kawira Mwangaza, the governor of Meru County.

There are claims that both individuals participated in enticing the blogger and later carrying out his killing.

New updates in the case indicate that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered a vehicle, which the murder suspects had used, in the Canopy Area of Kithoka, Meru County, just two days ago.
