Government Raises ID Replacement Fee by 20x: Ksh100 to Ksh2,000

The government has proposed increasing the fee for the replacement of identity cards from Ksh100 to Ksh2,000.

In a gazzete notice issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, the government also proposed increasing the fee for persons acquiring an ID for the first time to Ksh1000.

The government also introduced new hiked levies on obtaining birth certificates from Ksh 50 to Ksh 200.

โ€œIt is for the general public that pursuant to Regulation 60 of the Public Finance Management (National Government) Regulations, 2015, the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning has granted to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration the authority for the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to revise charges and levies on its services,โ€ read part of a gazette notice.

Kenyans seeking to change the details in their ID card will be forced to part ways with Ksh 1000 while those seeking identification reports will have to pay Ksh 1000 up from Ksh 300.
