GossipA-Z Take: “Halt the Riot- Leaders, Unite for Stability”
As fatalities, injuries, and property destruction were reported during yesterday’s nationwide anti-government demonstrations, as they were during the previous ones, the situation may be escalating.
Gangs of unruly youths engaged the police in violent confrontations, while others wreaked havoc on public infrastructure and ignited bonfires on the newly elevated Nairobi Expressway and other urban and rural highways.
Despite Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki’s assurance that police would not assault peaceful demonstrators, this is precisely what occurred in some locations.
They were assaulted, taken into custody, and locked up in police facilities. If the top political leaders—President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza team and Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga and his camp—had been committed to a peaceful resolution of the impasse, the violent confrontations would not have occurred.
Instead, we are witnessing an intensification of extremist positions. True, the government has a monopoly on the instruments of power, but as the country descends into chaos, it will be more difficult to restore law and order.

The leaders of the opposition should also have compassion for the ailing Kenyans. The Constitution protects the right to picket and hold nonviolent protests.
This has been flagrantly violated by police officers. However, the lawlessness of the criminals who exploit the demos cannot be disregarded. Businesses and other operations, including education, were halted.
The city center of Nairobi was deserted for hours. This nation cannot afford such devastation. Both sides’ extremists must heed the voice of reason. The nation cannot continue in this manner.
The stalled bipartisan discussions should be revived, and perhaps the senior leaders should become more involved. Let us band together to halt this insanity.
Why would individuals who have previously collaborated become intractable rivals? Politicians appear content to see innocent citizens brutalized in pursuit of their egotistical interests. There is excessive violence, which must cease.
