Gor Mahia Receives Ksh 800K from Interior CS Eliud Owalo

On Tuesday, April 25, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo donated Ksh800,000 to the Gor Mahia Football Club.

According to the CS, Ksh725,000 of the total funds were intended for the payment of delinquent winning bonus arrears, while the remainder will be paid to the club’s security team.

When hosting Gor Mahia FC in Nairobi, Owalo urged more corporations to support Kenyan football.

The CS explained further that the majority of community football clubs in the country required assistance from the private sector.

Owalo remarked, “I was impressed by Gor’s performance against Kenya Police over the weekend.”

He emphasized that the government is doing its best to support the sector. But that additional partners are required to sustain and grow football in the country.

The club’s chairman Ambrose Rachier, who was present, explained that pay disputes with former players were causing financial difficulties for Gor Mahia.

“We were required to pay millions of shillings in penalties and interest. I urge the players to adopt alternative dispute resolution mechanisms with the club,” he explained.

Rachier also requested that the CS expedite the club’s acquisition of a title deed for land in Kasarani, Nairobi, donated by former President Daniel Moi.

With a record 19 league titles, Gor Mahia, also known as K’Ogalo, was the most successful football club in Kenya.

Earlier, club coach Jonathan McKinstry challenged club officials to devise self-sustaining football club mechanisms.

Tusker trails leaders Gor by two points in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League standings with 56 points after 26 matches.
