    Gang-Controlled Station Shut by Ruto

President William Ruto has ordered the closure of a police station in Busia purportedly taken over by a criminal gang.

On Saturday, August 26, at a public rally in Busia town, the head of state attributed his decision to a public outcry by citizens and local leaders who were dissatisfied with the police station’s operations.

Ruto warned that he would not relent in his pursuit of those accused of wreaking havoc by engaging in criminal activity in collusion with corrupt police officers.

Let them interpret my features. I will confront anyone who attempts to cause violence here in Busia. According to reports, the gang even has its police station in Busia.

“This must promptly cease. I have issued an immediate order to shut down the police station. And tell them that I am the one who commanded the closure,” Ruto demanded as the crowd cheered and applauded.

Under his supervision, he further assured the citizens of Busia County, that no one would be permitted to destroy property or human life. He observed that some individuals were exploiting protests to commit acts of violence against unsuspecting civilians.

“I want us to reach an agreement on how to manage security concerns in this area. “Let it be known that no one will be permitted to attack the innocent people of Busia. If they attempt, we will meet them head-on,” Ruto promised.

The President also cautioned local leaders who foment violence in the region that they will be held accountable, noting that any incitement to violence is illegal.

Ruto stated as he began his tour of Western Kenya, “We do not want violence in this region, and we will not permit it in this region.”

Paul Otwoma, the governor of Busia, lamented that the town’s criminals had begun taxing small-scale merchants without naming the gang’s leader.

“Unfortunately, the gang has engaged in criminal activities, such as taxing women who operate shops in Busia town,” Otwoma said.

Ruto and Otuoma did not, however, address the fate of the police officers accused of contributing to insecurity. Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and Inspector General of Police Kithure Kindiki have yet to decide whether they will rein in the police or launch a manhunt for the gang.
