Gachagua: Why I am Impressed by Ruto-Raila Talks
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua conveyed his astonishment on Friday, March 8, regarding the fruitful discussions facilitated by the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO).
During the presentation of the NADCO report at State House, Gachagua acknowledged that he initially had doubts about the discussions and questioned whether they would progress successfully.
The Deputy President (DP) failed to fully grasp the determination of the Kenyan populace during negotiations aimed at reconciling the opposition and the government.
“I have since been impressed by what has happened and I think this is the way to go, Kenya is bigger than all of us,” Gachagua stated.
Praising the efforts of the dialogue team, the Deputy Prime Minister remarked that the talks’ triumph had ushered in a period of tranquility for the nation, while also boosting the effectiveness of government operations.
Moreover, he stated that the talks’ success proved that all issues raised by the Azimio coalition during the anti-government demonstrations were adequately dealt with.

“We have a plan and a mandate with the people of Kenya that we would like to execute and implement,” the DP noted.
“Going forward, after the two houses have done justice to the report, we believe that we will have peace forever, and never again shall we settle our political differences in the streets of Nairobi and other towns,” he added.
Gachagua’s recent comments are about his previous statements, where he asserted that the dialogue discussions were part of Raila’s covert strategy to leverage Kalonzo’s popularity for his own benefit.
In his remarks in August 2023, Gachagua additionally alleged that the leader of ODM was placing his own interests above the concerns of Kenyans.
โNothing will come out of those talks. It is a waste of time. Iโm telling you as Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya,” Gachagua claimed.
“Raila looked for Ruto the other day, and he came without Kalonzo. He only spoke for himself, his kids, and his people. He has now sent Kalonzo to the talks where the agenda does not address the issue of Ukambani.”
