A motion for the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was submitted to the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 1.

The motion received support from 291 Members of Parliament, including a representative from the Mathira constituency, which is Gachagua’s home area.

What comments did Gachagua make about Ndindi Nyoro?

Before the motion’s presentation, Gachagua praised Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, revealing details about their previously unknown relationship.

He characterized Nyoro as a disciplined and competent leader who stayed above the political fray during discussions.

“I have mentored him and will continue to do so. He is a bright young man. That’s why you won’t hear him resorting to insults. He is respectful and conducts himself like a leader because he understands his responsibilities. He has a promising future and is a very good friend of mine,” Gachagua remarked.

Gachagua also shared that Nyoro provided him refuge during the pursuit by former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“During the times I was arrested every Friday under the previous regime, I would go to his home, where his wife Sophia would prepare meals for me,” he stated.

The MP has not yet commented on his choice to withhold support for the impeachment of the deputy president.

However, just months prior, Nyoro was viewed as a potential leader for Mt. Kenya, with many MPs showing preference for him over Gachagua.

Is Gachagua prepared to step down if impeached?

Meanwhile, the Deputy President expressed his readiness to accept any decision made by MPs regarding his ouster.

He delivered a heartfelt message to the residents of Mt. Kenya, urging them to stay united, even in the event of his removal from office.

Gachagua warned that the region could face numerous challengesโ€”social, economic, and politicalโ€”should he be impeached.

What additional information should you know about Gachagua’s impeachment?

Some MPs have called for increased security for President William Ruto and themselves while the debate over Gachagua’s impeachment unfolds.

Pastor Dorcas Rigathi expressed her belief that the deputy president’s impeachment will ultimately fail.

CS Alfred Mutua voiced his support for the impeachment motion against Gachagua, labeling him as a rogue.
