Gachagua makes an impromptu visit to UDA headquarters
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made an impromptu inspection visit to UDA headquarters in Nairobi.
The DP visited the offices located along Ngong Road on Monday afternoon.
“I commend the secretariat for the great work they have done towards running the party,” Gachagua on X.
The ruling party is scheduled to hold its grassroots elections in 2024.
President William Ruto’s party acquired the five-story building in Nairobi as its new headquarters around March last year.
The building accommodates the party leader, chairman, and secretary general’s offices.
The visit by Gachagua comes as the party prepares to hold grassroots elections in April next year after postponing the exercise which had been slated for December 9.
UDA’s National Steering Committee chaired by Ruto, who is the party leader, resolved to postpone the elections to 12th, 19th, and 26th April 2024.
“All candidates and members of the Party are encouraged to continue sensitizing and recruiting members to the Party,” the announcement read.
UDA, which said it has 7.2 million registered members, will use technology to ensure the grassroots polls are above board.

The party has since allowed parastatal heads to participate in the upcoming grassroots elections.
This decision contradicts the initial advisory from Attorney General Justin Muturi and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, which had deemed parastatal heads as State Officers, disqualifying them from engaging in party activities.
The party Secretary General Cleophas Malala however said UDA’s decision was based on a ruling by the Court of Appeal.
The former Kakamega Senator urged party members interested in the leadership positions to continue registering before the window closes on March 22, 2024.
“The elections will be staggered into three clusters, taking place on the 12th, 19th and 26th April 2024. A detailed schedule outlining county clusters will be released in due course,” he noted.
The party intends to hold elections of its party grassroots officials for Polling Centre, Ward, Constituency, and County levels.
