Gachagua Declares GEMA Will Rule for 100 Years, Mocks Ruto as ‘Raila’s Life Support’

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities will be at the center of Kenya’s next government, whether or not opposition leader Raila Odinga supports them.

While speaking at a church service in Machakos on Sunday, Gachagua expressed confidence that the GEMA community would play a key role in shaping the country’s future politics.

“GEMA is Kenya’s solution. GEMA will form the next government,” he stated.

He reassured his supporters that their political plans were solid and that they had enough voters to secure victory. “We have checked the numbers, and they look good, with or without Raila,” he added.

Gachagua also criticized President William Ruto, claiming that Ruto’s political strength now depends on Raila’s support.

“Ruto is on life support, and Raila is keeping him alive. If Raila pulls away, Ruto is finished,” he said. He went on to predict that Ruto would struggle in the 2027 elections. “In 2027, Ruto will be either third or fourth,” Gachagua stated.

He further declared that GEMA’s unity would help them maintain political control for a long time.

“If we stay united as GEMA, we will be in power for the next 100 years,” he said.

His remarks come shortly after he hinted that he might be open to working with Raila Odinga to remove President Ruto in the 2027 elections.

Raila and Ruto have recently formed a new political agreement that includes some of Raila’s key allies in a broad-based government.

Since his removal from Ruto’s government in October, Gachagua has been reaching out to various political leaders, including those from the opposition, in preparation for the 2027 elections.

In an interview with Musyi FM and other Kamba radio stations on Wednesday, Gachagua was asked whether he would work with Raila.

“I do not know Raila’s plans. It is up to him to decide whether he wants to stay with Ruto and ruin his political legacy or join those fighting for the country’s future,” Gachagua responded.

He also argued that Ruto would not get support from the 9 million young voters in Kenya, saying, “Ruto is not getting Gen Z votes, so whether Raila supports him or not, we will defeat him. Kenyans have already decided that Ruto must leave, and they want a new government that works for them.”

Gachagua has met with several political leaders, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), and Eugene Wamalwa of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), in an effort to form a strong opposition alliance ahead of the next elections.
