Gachagua: Azimio Leaders to Regain Security Detail in 3 Months
According to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, after three months the government would reestablish the security detail that was previously provided to the leaders and friends of the Azimio La Umoja Coalition.
On Sunday, the person in second place in charge gave a speech to the congregation gathered at Alliance High School.
He indicated that the protection afforded to the leaders would be restored once the government is certain that the recent wave of demonstrations against the government has ended.
“I am sorry that your security has been compromised. Your personnel was taken to deal with demonstrators,” Gachagua stated, alluding to the withdrawal of security detail assigned to the top brass of the Azimio Coalition. Gachagua was referring to the fact that demonstrators were dealt with by your police.

“We did not have enough officers to deal with demonstrations for the entire span of three days.” After a period of three months, when we are certain that there will be no demonstrations, your policemen will be returned to you.
As the government moved in to quell the opposition’s continued rallies over a range of topics, including the Finance Bill 2023 and the rising cost of living, their protection was removed approximately two weeks ago. This included Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and more than fifty MPs from the Azimio constituency.
Ahead of the nationwide three-day mass demonstrations, the security details of four Nyanza governors, Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay, James Orengo of Siaya, Prof. Anyang Nyong’o of Kisumu, and Ochilo Ayacko of Migori, were told to report to Kisumu. The demonstrations were scheduled to take place across the entire nation.
Mama Ngina Kenyatta was another person whose safety was compromised as a result of the withdrawal of security. The security guards who had been stationed at her homes in Muthaiga and Gatundu were returned and sent to other locations.
